PlayStation VR2 and Horizon VR game announced

By Jack Taylor – 5 January 2022

Sony has announced the name and new details of PlayStation 5's VR system, alongside a new Horizon game by Guerrilla and Firesprite.

PlayStation VR2 - shortened to PS VR2 - is the official name of the virtual reality system for PlayStation 5, and includes the new VR controllers previously revealed, now called the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.

PS VR2 features an OLED display with a resolution of 2000x2040 pixels per eye and supports 90Hz and 120Hz refresh rates. It supports a 110-degree field of view and has a six-axis motion sensor system and IR proximity sensor, headset vibration, and a built-in microphone and headset jack. It connects to the PS5 via USB Type-C.

Sony has also announced Horizon Call of the Mountain, a new experience designed for PS VR2 by Guerrilla and UK-based Firesprite. Little has been revealed outside of a short teaser trailer, but players will take on the role of a new protagonist and will meet new and returning characters - including Aloy - during the adventure.

No release date for PlayStation VR2 or Horizon Call of the Mountain has yet been announced.
