Nintendo GameCube games will be available as part of the Nintendo Classics library on Nintendo Switch 2.
Announced during the Switch 2's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo GameCube games will be available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, and the first games will be available on 5 June, the system's launch date.
The first three games to be available, from 5 June, are The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur II - the Nintendo GameCube version of which features Link as a special playable character. Games confirmed to be added in the future include:
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
- Pokémon Colosseum
- Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness
- Super Mario Strikers
- Chibi-Robo!
- Luigi's Mansion
Games that support multiplayer allow up to four players to play together locally or online. A new feature to the Nintendo GameCube library is per-game control mapping, allowing players to customise each game's controls directly through an in-game menu. CRT filters will also be available to give games a more retro feel.
Nintendo also announced a new Nintendo GameCube controller exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, featuring USB-C charging, a C button for GameChat functionality, and the ability to play using the controller wirelessly or wired using a USB-C cable.
Following the presentation, Nintendo also confirmed that the Nintendo 64 app would receive additional features on Nintendo Switch 2, including a CRT filter, per-game control mapping, and a rewind feature. It, and all other Nintendo Switch Online classic game apps, will be retitled "Nintendo Classics" following their next updates.
